cWIDR Opening Symposium

OpeningOn April 24, 2008 the cWIDR hosted its inaugural symposium at the Eric P. Newman Education Center on the Washington University School of Medicine campus in conjunction with the 2008 Brennecke Lecture in Microbial Pathogenesis.

Griffin Rodgers, M.D., Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases at the National Institutes of Health and Gail Cassell, Ph.D., Vice President for Scientific Affairs and Distinguished Lilly Research Scholar for Infectious Diseases at Eli Lilly and Company gave presentations on women’s health research and career development of women in biomedical careers, respectively.

Three distinguished scientists: Jo Handlesman, Ph.D., Patricia Spear, Ph.D. and Susan Gottesman, Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin-Madison (now at Yale University), Northwestern University, and the National Cancer Institute, respectively, presented scientific talks.
The Opening Ceremony was highly successful and fostered new connections between the presenters and scientists and clinicians from many Centers and Departments at Washington University.
